In the year 2000, work began for a new large building which was constructed on the north side of the historic town, with the purpose of progressively substituting the services located in the old modernist pavilions. The question remains as to what use will be given to the historical buildings declared Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO. On July 3, 2009, the new building was definitively inaugurated with a large party. Despite this, several pavilions of the old hospital remain operative. The design of the façades used grey pumice granite in large formats combined with others that are much smaller and with a vertical aesthetic of the panels. The fastening of the system was entrusted to Sistema Masa and the fixation model PF-ALU/HPL was used, which permits vertical combination of the cladding panels, permitting vertical movement of the joints.
