Energy efficiency in buildings will change from an option to become an obligation from the year 2020. The European Union to ensure the reduction of energy use, demanded to meet the 20/20/20 target, which calls for the countries of the union to make all new buildings efficient. To achieve this, the real estate sector has focused on the design of its projects that will unite the aesthetics of architecture with efficient materials and solutions.
Energy efficiency in buildings. What it is?
In recent years the real estate sector has suffered the consequences of the global economic crisis, however, for some time there is evidence that the sector is improving its forecasts. Taking advantage of the growing demand, builders and architects have taken advantage of it to reinvent themselves through energy efficiency in buildings. To this end, new homes must adapt to current designs and comply with the technical code that the EU requires to comply with the commitment to the environment through energy efficiency.
This mandatory requirement requires a high quality in materials and the installation of efficient measures and systems, such as ventilated facades. Although Spain is beginning to value this option, in the European international scope do not conceive of a house or a building without energy saving.
Energy efficiency in buildings is to reduce energy consumption to improve pollution levels, save on our bills and take advantage of renewable energy to promote self-consumption.
Buildings of almost null consumption
In order to achieve these objectives, the European Union has demanded that member states comply with the so-called 20/20/20 measure and that all newly constructed buildings should be almost zero in consumption from 2020 onwards. Reduce consumption by more than 20% and take advantage of renewable energy for self-consumption.
According to the EU, current buildings account for 40% of final energy consumption, a level that exceeds the industry or transport sector. Unfortunately this consumption is not reduced, but every year increases especially due to the demand for the air conditioning of buildings.
Solutions to improve efficiency
Reducing levels of energy consumption is possible if we apply some measures such as improving insulation systems, enhancing natural lighting, etc. However, the most effective measures have to do with building materials and the installation of systems such as ventilated facades. Thanks to them, we can reduce the energy bill by up to 40% because they help to maintain the temperature of the air conditioning systems and avoid the loss of heat in winter, and of cold in summer.
Another solution to achieving energy efficiency in buildings is rehabilitation. Most of the constructed buildings date back to 1983 and require a number of rehabilitation improvements to help achieve the EU target.
